Techniques

What I use, and why. I’ll always explain what I’m about to do and ask before I start.

For people

Engraved plate of vertebrae from the neck, chest and lower back

Adjustments

Quick, precise movements of a joint to help it move more freely.

An adjustment is a short, controlled movement applied by hand to a specific joint, often in the spine. You may hear a click, which is just gas being released from the joint. I use light, specific adjustments and always explain what I am about to do first. [CONFIRM: McTimoney technique wording]

Soft tissue work

Hands-on work on muscles and connective tissue to ease tension.

Tight or overworked muscles can limit how a joint moves. Soft tissue work uses massage-like pressure and stretching to ease that tension, either on its own or alongside adjustments.

Mobilisation

Gentle, repeated movement of a joint through its range.

Mobilisation moves a joint slowly and repeatedly within a comfortable range. It suits people who prefer a gentler approach, and is often part of a first visit while I learn how your body responds.

For horses and dogs

Animal chiropractic

Light, fast adjustments adapted for horses and dogs, with your vet’s consent.

Animal chiropractic uses the same principles as my human work, adapted to the size and build of horses and dogs. I watch the animal stand and move, check the spine, pelvis and limbs by hand, then use light, quick adjustments where they are needed. [CONFIRM: McTimoney animal technique wording]

Masterson Method

Bodywork for horses that follows the horse’s own responses.

The Masterson Method is a hands-on bodywork technique for horses. Using very light touch, I watch for small signs of release, such as blinking, licking and chewing, and let the horse’s responses guide where I work next. [CONFIRM: certified practitioner or in training]
