Questions

The things people most often ask before booking. Anything else, just ask.

General

Does treatment hurt?

Treatment is usually comfortable. Some people feel a little stiff for a day or two afterwards, much like after exercise. I'll always explain what I'm about to do and stop if you, or your animal, are uncomfortable.

How many sessions will I need?

It depends on the problem and how long it has been there. After the first visit I'll suggest a plan and talk it through with you; there's never any obligation to book a block of sessions.

Are you regulated?

Yes. Chiropractic is regulated by law in the UK and I'm registered with the General Chiropractic Council, which sets the standards I must work to. I'm also a member of the Royal College of Chiropractors. [CONFIRM]

What is chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a hands-on approach to problems with muscles, joints and the spine. I assess how the body moves, then use gentle, specific techniques to help it move more comfortably.

Do I need a GP referral?

No, you can book directly. If anything in your assessment suggests you need to see your GP first, I'll tell you and explain why.

Can I claim on health insurance?

Many health insurers cover chiropractic. Check with your insurer before your visit; I can give you a receipt to claim with. [CONFIRM which insurers Clare is recognised by]

What should I wear?

Something comfortable you can move in. I may need to see your back or the area that's troubling you, and I'll always ask first. You're welcome to bring someone with you.

For horses and dogs

How should I get my horse ready?

Please have your horse clean, dry and in from the field, with a level, quiet area where I can watch them walk and trot up in hand. Tell me about any recent changes in work, tack, feed or behaviour.

How many sessions will my horse need?

Many horses are seen two or three times at first, then for check-ups a few times a year, but every horse is different. I'll suggest a plan after the first visit.

Do you treat other animals?

I mainly treat horses and dogs. If you have another animal, get in touch and I'll tell you honestly whether I can help. [CONFIRM]

Do I need my vet's permission?

Yes. The law says your vet must examine your animal and agree to chiropractic treatment before I can treat it. Most vets are happy to, and I'm glad to speak to them directly.
